All ensembles are open to all strings (violin, viola, cello, bass).
Winds, Brass, and Percussion chairs are subject to availability in Intermezzo and Symphony. Prelude is strings-only.

Symphony
Thursdays, 7:30 - 9:30
Conductor, Warren Cohen.
Musicians in symphony play at an intermediate to advanced level. The repertoire includes original full versions of symphonic works and concertos.
Intermezzo
Thursdays, 5:45 - 7:00
Conductor, Craig Stanton.
Musicians in intermezzo play at an advanced beginner and intermediate level. The repertoire includes arrangements of classical pieces.​
Prelude
Thursdays, 4:30 - 5:30
Conductor, Beth Maliszewski.
Musicians in Prelude play at a beginning level, have a basic understanding of notes and rhythms and are ready to begin playing in an ensemble. No previous ensemble experience is required. The repertoire includes arrangements of short classical pieces and fiddle tunes. Prelude is also great for people who are returning back to playing.
Outreach
1 Wednesday/ month, 6:30-8:30pm
Conductor, Miki Hatcher
Outreach brings music to audiences who can not attend concerts. They perform about once a month in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, specialized schools, and libraries.

Summer at NJIO
In the summer, NJIO offers opportunities to hone your skills, learn something new, and make new friends! Offerings vary by year.
Young Artist Concerto Competition
Held annually each Spring
Each year NJIO holds a concerto competition. Winners of this competition receive a monetary prize and perform with NJIO symphony orchestra the following season.
