NJIO is a team of board members, staff, and volunteers. Member and community volunteer involvement provides the stability and support needed to ensure that our orchestras stand the test of time for years to come. For 27 years NJIO has provided a noncompetitive environment for people of all ages to play music. Whether someone is returning to playing after a break, starting a new instrument, or continuing to play, NJIO has a place for everyone.
NJIO Volunteer community members can include members or friends and family of members. All positions will work directly with the Program Director for instruction and job specifics.
Positions will be held for a one year term.
We are in search of volunteers for the following areas.
Concert Lobby Coordinator Position filled
This role will be held by a non playing member of the NJIO community. The person in thier role will work with the program
director on specifics for each concert, they will assist in setting up and breaking down the front lobby, direct other lobby volunteers, assist with raffles and drawings, and assist audience members when needed.
Social Media Coordinator Position filled
The Social Media Coordinator will organize and post relevant materials directly to NJIO's facebook and Instagram pages.
Subject matter will be in coordination with the marketing and membership schedule.
Photography Position filled
NJIO's photographer will capture the spirit of NJIO during rehearsals and performances. This person will also capture specific moments indicated prior to events and also occasionally take still shots when needed. No special equipment is needed.
Music Librarian Position filled
Scan/ download music from various sources (hard copies, Imslp, etc) Print out office copies for staff and copied for members when needed. Manage dropbox for short-term storage and members access, as well as Office Outlook teams file for long-term storage when needed. Work with the program director for training in specific programs and timelines.
Concert Backstage Coordinator
This role will ideally be held by a person who is not playing in an orchestra. (Or someone who is comfortable multi-tasking and only plays in Prelude or Symphony for logistical reasons). Job responsibility includes communication between the stage and the backstage, assisting members with questions while backstage (location of restrooms etc), and initiating the transition of specific orchestra players from backstage to the concert stage.
Bake Sale Coordinator
Due to covid, this position is temporarily not active.

Concert Front Lobby Crew
Volunteers in the front lobby will ideally not play in the orchestra. They will assist in setting up the lobby while the groups are doing sound check and welcome audience members up until the start of the concert. Jobs include: donation table, handing out programs, ensuring audience members are aware of current covid protocols, and assisting audience members when needed.
Concert Clean-up Crew
Volunteers will stay after the concert to ensure that the front lobby, concert area, and backstage are packed up. Look for any forgotten items (coats, stands, music etc). Help make sure we leave the space the way we found it.
Rehearsal Crew
Volunteers for rehearsals can include orchestra members and friends of NJIO. They will assist with checking members in to rehearsal and/or set up and break down of rehearsal space.
