NJIO 2008 Summer Chamber Music Workshop Have you ever wanted to learn to play chamber music in a stress free environment? The NJIO is introducing a new program called: “Introduction to Chamber Music Workshop”. We would like to extend this unique experience to music lovers like you. This program is open to all string players wishing to learn about chamber music. Focusing on beginner and intermediate players, we provide coaching by professional musicians in a relaxed and noncompetitive atmosphere. The program will be held at the Harvest Training Center, 69 Myrtle Street, Cranford, NJ. Directions available here. The cost of the program is $100 for a session of 4 evenings (from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm). Or come to both for $175. The dates for the workshop are:
We will examine different music during each session, so you’re
welcome to join us for both sessions. Each evening will consist of a brief
discussion of chamber music and 1 1/2 hours of coaching. Music appropriate for
your playing skills will be provided. Our encouraging coaching staff will help
you experience the joys of playing chamber music. Registration is limited. Please sign up soon if you wish to attend. String musicians of all ages, NJIO members or not, are welcome to join this program. You can register by mail or bring the form below to the first rehearsal. Download and fill out a registration form (pdf format) here. NJIO Workshop Leader and Coach Biographies: Martin Steinberg: Marty has much experience in the world of chamber music. He has participated in workshops in such places as Lincoln Center, France, California and Vermont. His coaches have included Ida Kavafian, Daniel Phillips and David Schifrin of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; Robert Dodson, dean of the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music; and our dear friend Joe Gluck. He currently studies with Irene Sharp, who is one of the top cello pedagogues and a student of Pablo Casals. Marty also is an editor and music writer for The Associated Press. He has interviewed and written about some of the biggest names in music, including Yo-Yo Ma, Mstislav Rostropovich, Joshua Bell, the Emerson Quartet, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, among many others. Mikhail Kuchuk, Violin: Misha was a first prize winner of the Carl Flesch Violin Competition (Hungary) in 1993, and the Baden Wurtemberg Violin Competition (Germany) in 1996 and Ukrainian National Violin Competition in 1990. He is a recipient of prestigious David Oistrakh Scholarship in Odessa, Ukraine, and the Rosenberg Foundation’s Scholarship in Freiburg, Germany. Mikhail was featured as a solo violinist in Forever Tango on Broadway. Claire Wilson, Violin: Recently graduated from Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts, Claire Wilson enjoys an versatile career performing and teaching. Her teachers have included Todd Phillips, Peter Winograd, and Calvin Wiersma. Ruth Brons, Viola: Ruth studied viola in Philadelphia with Max Aronoff, Evelyn Jacobs Luise and Davyd Booth. She earned a bachelor’s degree in viola performance from the New School of Music, and a master’s of music performance degree from Temple University. In addition to her work with the Westfield Symphony, St. Cecelia Chorus and Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Peter by the Sea, and the Livingston Symphony, Ruth maintains a full studio of violin and viola students.
