The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra announces a Young Artist Baroque
Concerto Competition that is open to all New Jersey students in grades 7 through
12. In this competition, musicians are required to play one movement of a
Baroque concerto by memory. Concertos should be from the standard Baroque
orchestral repertoire. Two winners will be chosen to play their winning
concertos with the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra in separate
performances during the upcoming year. Alternates will be chosen for each event.
Download an application form at the link below. Applicants must submit
their form by August 1, 2008 to the address indicated on the form in order to
qualify. The completed application should include the name and movement of the
intended competition piece and the signature of the applicant, their parent or
guardian
and their instrumental teacher. A panel of judges will evaluate the entries at a
competition on September 11, 2008. Both winners will be notified on the
following day. The first place winner will perform their concerto with the
orchestra at a Saturday evening concert in February. The second place winner
will perform their concerto with the NJIO at a Children’s concert in November,
2008. The first and second place winners will receive $200 and $100 respectively
upon the conclusion of their performance with
the NJIO
The NJIO is a unique program that supports three ensembles, including a full
orchestra. Our members, ages 6-86, strive for high artistic excellence in a
non-competitive, but strongly educational environment. Our ensembles support
musicians of all skill levels. If you have additional questions regarding the
competition or the orchestra, please call the New Jersey Intergenerational
Orchestra at (908) 522-0100. We look forward to hearing you! |
